Emerald Society – County Gloucester, NJ


Membership

  • Membership shall be confined to persons who have Irish lineage. Applicants shall be required to state that lineage and the Executive Board may require applicants to produce evidence of their Irish lineage.

  • Any member in good standing may sponsor an applicant for membership at regular meetings of the organization. All applications shall be turned over to the secretary with the current dues.

  • Membership in the Gloucester County Emerald Society shall be divided into four classes:

Active: Any person of Irish lineage who is a full time, sworn member of a law enforcement agency, fire department, municipal/regional EMS service, or active military service is eligible for Active Membership. Active members have voting rights and may hold executive office.

Retired: Any person of Irish lineage who meets the requirements of Active Membership, but is honorably retired from his or her service, either by time or disability, may continue, or apply for, Retired Membership. Retired members have voting rights and may hold executive office.

Honorably Separated: Any person of Irish lineage who separates from service prior to the accepted retirement or separation time, provided that separation was under honorable conditions, may apply for Honorably Separated Membership. Honorably separated members do not have voting rights and may not hold executive office.

Associate: Any person of Irish lineage who is a part time paid professional member or volunteer member of any fire, police or municipal/regional EMS service is eligible for Associate Membership. Associate members do not have voting rights and may not hold executive office.

A. Members of security forces, industrial fire brigades (unless the individual’s capacity is “Firefighter” and it is a full time assignment) medical transport services, private or for-profit fire, law enforcement or EMS contractors (even if contracted by a municipality, group of municipalities or other form of government) are not eligible for membership.

 

B. Associate Member by Legacy:  An Active or Retired member of the Organization may request that an immediate family member who does not, with the exception of lineage, meet membership criteria (e.g. parent, grandparent, child, sibling) shall be granted Associate Membership in the Organization.

Purpose Statement of the
Gloucester County Emerald Society

The purpose of the Organization is to:

  1. Promote and develop a friendly and fraternal spirit amongst members;

  2. Encourage a fuller participation in the activities of the various public safety departments represented by the membership;

  3. Encourage members to fully familiarize themselves with the prescribed, authorized and accepted practices and procedures to the end that they will be able to serve their communities in a more courteous, intelligent and efficient manner;

  4. Uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of New Jersey;

  5. Encourage members to appreciate their Gaelic heritage and the Gaelic culture.

Affiliation Statement of the Gloucester County Emerald Society

1. In order to maintain the integrity of the Organization and support the spirit of our Purpose as stated herein, the Gloucester County Emerald Society will not provide endorsement or show preference to any political entity or religion.

  1. The Organization will not endorse any political candidate.

  2. The Organization will not bar the membership of any eligible person based on religious affiliation or lack thereof.

  3. The Organization will not fund any political campaign or religious event.
     
    i. In the event that a charity benefiting a Member or a member of the public safety profession is being provided for or maintained by a religious or political group, the membership may entertain a request for donation provided that no portion of the donation be utilized to further a political or religious end.

  4. The Organization may affiliate with other non-political/non-religious organizations that hold the similar values and have similar goals for the sole purpose of furthering its Purpose as stated in Article II.
     
    i. The Organization is incorporated as an individual entity and shall not be bound by the rules, regulations and by-laws of any other organization.
